2011, October - Drive home from Vegas, including drive through Mammoth and June Lake

We decided to drive the very long way home on this trip from Las Vegas.  So, after getting to California (with the obligatory stop at Peggy Sue's Diner)...

we headed up route 395 on the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevadas.  The drive was beautiful.

Our first stop was the Mammoth Lakes area where we stayed overnight.  

Just outside of town was the Devil's Postpile National Monument.  The monument features a beautiful columnar basalt formation.

We also made a stop a June Lake.  We were here many years ago but not in the fall.  The fall foliage was pretty gorgeous.
